‘Shah-mat’ A Chessboard Redesign
Concept
‘Shah-mat’ was the original name of the game we know as Chess, it meant-‘ death of King’. Unable to pronounce it British merchants renamed it to Chess- Chariot(rook), Horse( knight), Elephant(bishop) and Soldiers(pawns). This is an homage to my Indian culture which is the birth place of the game. It highlights the negligence towards the representation of the working class in the South- Asian collection. It’s been redesigned with respect to Art Deco whose aim was to have something for everyone, by using its design language consisting of bold geometric patterns, curves, cubism, smooth polish surfaces and sleek design inspired by 'Streamline Moderne'.
